Good morning! I am not a student, nor do I even work in a school setting. However, I have a Day of Silence tee shirt on, I wrote about it at my own blog, and the LGBT organization that I volunteer with, and I printed out the DOS cards to distribute. I am, however, being silent for the day on Facebook; I put that as my status with info about what DOS is, and I hope that others will follow suit when they read it! Best wishes all in making this a very powerful day!!! Peace, Vanessa

Well, today is going pretty well thus far. I've only said one word on accident. I'm very disappointed with myself for doing so. I've heard a lot of people talking about what we're doing. At a later time I'll post a picture of a fly we made, it's pretty amazing if I do say so myself. I've gotten some rude remarks, but I've learned to deal with them. I am glad at the turn out of my friends and even people I don't know. It's such a blessing to have the support of people. :]. I hop everyone's day is great.

Hello! In just one day i gathered 85-100 (85 myself but friends have said they called others as well) students and 2 teachers! The main office is quite upset (i live in a tiny 99.9% christian town n southern indiana) and is trying to find who started the movement. *shifty eyes* We have done nothing wrong and only display things on our person. I don't regret a single second although it could out me to my fundamentalist christian grandparents.

Stay Silent and Let Your Voice Be Heard!

I dressed up in a mens dress shirt and tie and my principal asked if i was lesbian or a drag King
Though I am bi I take that as a victory with him.....
I am getting a lot of positive feed back, at least to my face, I know there is more going on behind that.
Hope everyone is having a great day

Hey, everybody! Today is my first time participating in the Day of Silence. It's also the first time anyone in my school has ever heard of the Day of Silence. Thanks to Facebook and word of mouth, of 350 students we have 20ish participants. That's not a lot, but in a small school like mine it's enough to get people talking. No negative comments as of yet. Good luck to all of you and wish us luck here at Utah County Academy of Sciences!

I am doing the DOS at my school and there are so many other kids doing it and the teachers are being very acepting about it all. I have done the day of silnce every year since my 7th grade year. My brother and my father are both gay and I am bisexual, I am not affraid to show it like I use to be, sure I get shit for it but one day they will get over it. If not that is there problem not mine. All I have to say to everyone out there is.. Live for yourself and what makes you happy dont worry about what others think

My first DOS is going well! We've got over 85 participants at my school! Red is everywhere and the teachers are very supportive.

Facebook is definitely the way to get out the word.

Making a statement by not talking. The feeling of accomplishment will be great tonight when my vow of silence has ended and i know me and everyone else took a stand against something that shouldnt exist and not only bullying to G,L,B,T but also to anyone being bullied! I support the non bullying aspect cause the game i play was getting "bullied" and the players too! and i also have B.G.T.L friends that i wish to support fully! Down with Bullying!

I am a student at South Point High School in Belmont NC. This is my 7th year participating and helping organize the DOS. Someone decided that they would make a "straight version" of our silence cards and pass THEM out. Those of us participating in the DOS were making wonderful headway untill this slip began to circulate. And now the students are losing moral to keep up the day. Some have even broken their silence. Fights have started and our school has brought in extra security.. What can I do to help support those who are actually standing firm without my temper getting too inraged?

To South Point Student:

It's tough when resistance grows; opposition can wear at our defenses and stir up emotion like despair or anger. Please know that the reason why these students started their counter campaign was because of the success of your organizing. Your group became more powerful, so they acted out against it.

You're doing amazing things, and need to trust that the work your doing for Day of Silence is valuable and can create change in your school. We know you can do it!

For more tips on handling opposition, check out our blog post here: http://blog.dayofsilence.org/2010/04/8-tips-for-facing-opposition.html

Best of luck, and keep up the AMAZING work!

Had an awesome Day of Silence! I figured that, since I'm a pretty quiet person to begin with, no one would really notice if I was silent for a day (as has happened in years past), so this time I decided to amp it up a bit and wore really loud clothing to counteract the silence. Rainbows everywhere! It was fab.

Turns out that, for the first time, I wasn't the only one in my school doing it--the Ending Racism and Sexism Everywhere (ERASE) club was also doing it. In a note told the adviser for the club how thankful I am that she's helping to spread awareness for the DOS, and how I've been doing it myself for five years, and she was so overwhelmed by my support that she actually hugged me! I also managed to educate some of my classmates on the DOS and why it's important to stop anti-LGBT prejudice and harassment.

I just got home from school, today was my first day of silence. I had emailed all the teachers in my school and the principal asking for permission. All the teachers supported us. My boyfriend and I were the only two who lasted the whole day. We sat together during lunch and said nothing. Neither of us spoke a word. Tons of people have asked if we were straight we said yes. We were made fun of, but we didnt care. I am in 8th grade and now over 200 kids have already signed up with their email so i can email them all of the stuff when it comes time next year. This was a very successful day. I had a tshirt on and everything. It was very powerful, many people thanked me and told me to keep up the good work.
