Not only is Transgender Day of Remembrance a way to honor and celebrate
the lives of transgender and gender-nonconforming people, it's also a
great moment to look at how gender affects our lives and our schools.
Gender categorization is everywhere, including the books we're supposed
to like, the school subjects we're supposed to be good in, even the
jobs we're expected to have! These gender rules can be tough to follow
for all students, not just for transgender and gender-nonconforming
people.
So think, where do you see gender at your school? How does
gender affect you?

Being a girl, I am not aloud to play football. At any formal or semi-formal events at my school I must wear a skirt or dress. I think that there should not be circumstances in which guys and girls have to wear different clothing, because our society is no longer binary!
Rachel, if you really want to play football you can protest for your right to. A law has been around for a while that states that it is a requirement to have EQUAL opportunites in schools~ including sports... If they do not have a girls football team they must either make one or allow you to join the boy's team. I encourage you to look into this and I wish you good luck on joining the team... I hope it all works out. XD
Yes there is the equal opportunities and my school now has an all girls team known at the Power Puffs... But the thing is there are only 3 female football teams in this part of the sate... And for a tomboy like me those girls dont stand a chance... i dont understand why they dont just let girls play on the guys team! If they are worried about us getting hurt y dont they think about the fact that if we were scared of getting hurt we wouldnt sign up! ITS NOT FAIR!
