Save the Date: April 17, 2009!

Students have been asking when next year's Day of Silence will be held. We're happy to announce it will be Friday, April 17, 2009.

In deciding on a date we search the vacation and testing schedules of the top 20 largest school districts. We then search national and religious holidays and look at all the results together to find a date that works well for everyone. From this process we determined that April 17th would be best for most students in 2009.

So put it in your personal calendars and get it onto your school's schedule too. Remember, it's less than a year until the next Day of Silence!

It is on our calendar on our website already and we hope to more than double our participants this year.

Last year was our first year as a GSA at our school - and Ally week was a phenominal success considering that fact. We had more than 100 students and teachers sign an Ally Pledge Card and more than 157 participants in DOS.

We are marching in the pride parade this year as well for the first time ever.

We are looking forward to this next year's activities and events.

I will not be supporting the April 17, 2009 day of silence. In today's world a day of silence to suppot christianity would not be accepted, especially in school. The fact that you are encouraging students to participate in this day, during school hours is disrespectful to teachers, and to the students and others that do not agree with that lifestyle. It is a sin to live a life like you are supporting and supporting this day is also a sin.

The fact that bigotry can hide behind an "Anonymous" tag while spouting venom simply proves the importance of group action, solidarity and support for those who often feel that they don't get a voice.
